Day 1 , Saturday, September 2 Arrive Iceland 5:00AM  Raykajavik. Golden Circle 
Upon arrival(( from EWR, NJ, USA) in Iceland this morning pick up your 4X4 AWD  car rental from the airport and head out, beginning our self-drive of the country..6:13 AM sunrise, 8:40 PM sunset. Take some time this morning to Reykajvik city,  See Hallgrimskirkja, church ,  Harpa,city's opera house, Sun Voayger  Sudurgata, perlan

In afternoon, We will embark on the Golden Circle, one of Southern Iceland's most popular tours, including such fantastic attractions as the geothermal fields of Haukadalur - including the geysers, Geysir and Strokkur - the powerful Gullfoss waterfall and, finally, Iceland's largest national park, the UNESCO heritage site Þingvellir

Day 2 : Sunday, September 3 – South Iceland; Landmanalugar hike if possible 
This morning check out of your hotel and then head south to drive along the famous coast of Iceland, stopping to see the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara, Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss Waterfalls, and the quaint village of Vik . May stop at the  Sólheimasandur, plane crash

[ If possible ,   take 4-5 hour jeep tour  Þjórsárdalur valley, augavegur   treck (Landmannalaugar to the glacial valley of Þórsmörk)     With   starting point near  Seljalandfoss  or proximity ( and not starting from Reykjavik).  This may require overnight on Day 2 at the Vic area instead of at Skaftafell . If needed we can stay a day more at  the southland Iceland.]

Day 3 Monday, September 4 – Vatnajokull and Glacier Lagoon, Jokulsarlon

Today drive north and spend some time in the national park hiking and exploring.
See see   Svartifoss  falls ,enjoy the boat/zodiac tour at Jökulsárlón and do the jeep tour.

Skaftafell Visitor Center to get fitted for crampons and other safety equipment for a 2 hour guided hike on the glacier tongue Svinafellsjokull, right off of Vatnajokull. During your hike on the glacier your guide will talk about glacier behavior, environmental effects on the glacier, and other information pertaining to glaciers. After your tour, head north.]

Continue north today, passing the picturesque Eastfjords and many fishing villages along the way.

Wednesday, September 6 – North Iceland
Head out this morning going west across north Iceland. Stop at the powerful Dettifoss Waterfall and the Myvatn Nature

Day 5  Wednesday , September 6 – Skagafjorður ?

Drive to MyVatn. Relax in the sublime JARÐBÖÐIN VIÐ MÝVATN, a
bathing lagoon filled with mineral-rich, geothermally-heated
water. Marvel at the magical waterfall, GOÐAFOSS, and
DETTIFOSS, Europe’s most powerful waterfall.
Explore the volcanic area around KRAFLA, the spectacular
sulphur fields at NÁMASKARÐ, the dramatic lava formations
at DIMMUBORGIR, and the pseudo craters at SKÚTUSTAÐIR.
Or, go on a whale watching and/or bird watching tour on
SKJÁLFANDAFLÓI, a large bay known  . Ásbyrgi Canyon . 
Go to Akureyri today and visit Iceland’s second largest city, then continue west, overnighting tonight near the shores of the Skagafjordur fjord.

day 6 : . Northwest Iceland – Charming Stykkishólmur Town


Sept 7 Thursday

Take a leisurely drive through the Northwest region. One of the best-known horse farms in Iceland is located in this region, and a short horseback riding tour would be a great way to get to know the Icelandic horse.

You might want to stop at Hvammstangi and walk down to the shore to see if you can spot any seals, - they are frequent visitors here and short tours are available should you want to go out to sea to look for them. Continue to the inspiring town of Stykkishólmur, a charming ocean-side town with a relaxing atmosphere.

Before reaching Akureyri, you will come upon the Goðafoss waterfall, known as “waterfall of the gods.” Akureyri has plenty to offer visitors, and everyone should find something to their liking. You may also want to visit the fascinating Glaumbær folk museum, which is housed in an old turf farm.

Day 4, 5 Dettifoss Waterfall and the Wonders of Lake Mývatn

From Höfn, continue on your journey through the tranquil Eastern Fjords (but skip th stops)  After threading the fjords, proceed to the town of Egilsstaðir, where you might want to take a short break to visit the local bakery or a cafe. From Egilsstaðir, drive on to the amazing Lake Mývatn area and enjoy its stunning landscapes for the rest of the day. On the way to Lake Mývatn, make a detour to Dettifoss, the largest waterfall in Europe. You may want to visit the relaxing Mývatn Nature Baths in the afternoon or evening and bathe in the geothermal water.

day 3 Skaftafell – The Glacier Lagoon and Hofn Town


There is much  to oday. Spend half the day to continue your exploration of the Skaftafell National Park or join a glacier hike. After this rejuvenating stay in Skaftafell, continue driving along the roots of Vatnajokull glacier to the inspiring Jökulsarlon glacier lagoon. Here, massive ice blocks float in the lagoon and drift lazily towards the ocean. Short boat trips on the lagoon are operated for those eager for a closer scenic view. After a stop at the glacier lagoon, continue to the town of Höfn.

Day 2 Waterfalls – Black Beaches and A National Park

After breakfast, continue your road trip along Iceland’s amazing south coast. Stop by the beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall and, for an exciting new perspective, take a walk behind the waterfall to see the water crash over the cliff’s edge above. A little further, the powerful waterfall Skógafoss plunges 60 meters, creating quite a splash. Visit the Black Beach Reynisfjara, where huge basalt columns seem to rise from the ocean bed in mysterious formations, and the Dyrhólaey Nature Reserve. Stop at the charming small town of Vík before continuing over the desolate floodplains to Skaftafell National Park. This park, which is situated at the roots of Europe’s largest glacier (Vatnajökull), is a natural paradise and a national treasure. Svartifoss waterfall, with its dark lava columns and mesmerizing appeal, awaits your discovery in the lush area of Skaftafell.

In afternnon we ll follow a route known as the Golden Circle, where some of Iceland’s most precious natural gems can be found. First up is a visit to Thingvellir National Park. Thingvellir is a place of great importance from a geological and historical perspective, as well as a park of exceptional natural beauty. From Thingvellir National Park, continue to the Great Geysir geothermal area. The area hosts dozens of geysers and hot springs, the most powerful of which (Strokkur) erupts every 8 minutes or so with such force that the boiling hot water jets 15 to 20 meters into the air. Continue further to the Golden Waterfall, Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most majestic waterfall. When viewed in sunny weather, the mist layers many rainbows on top of one-another, giving the waterfall its beautiful crown. Before heading to your lodging for the night, visit the impressive volcanic crater, Kerið, and the town of Selfoss.

Gullfoss, "Golden Falls" in Icelandic, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland. The Hvítá River flows down into a wide curved three-step "staircase" and then abruptly plunges in two stages (11 m and 21 m) into a 32 meter deep crevice. (Info from Wikipedia).
